On February 3, 2019, Officers with the Marianna Police Department were dispatched to Winn Dixie in reference to a shoplifting. Officer were provided with a description of a red Chevrolet SUV with an Alabama tag number.
Officers located the vehicle as it attempted to leave the City of Marianna enroute to Alabama. During a traffic stop the driver, Alexander Williams was arrested for outstanding warrants from Jackson County. Additionally he had in his possession two Hydrocodone pills that he could not provide a prescription for which were concealed in a cigarette pack.
Employees of Winn Dixie were able to positively identify the passenger, Fatimah Borders as the female that left the store with over $300.00 worth of merchandise in a shopping cart that she had not paid for. As the employees attempted to stop Borders from leaving, she abandoned the merchandise in the parking lot and fled the area in the Chevrolet SUV.
New merchandise was located in the vehicle including several expensive appliances, clothing, bedsheet sets along with other items. These items did not come from Winn Dixie and are believed to be stolen from other retail stores in the Jackson County area. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was notified and took possession of the other suspected stolen items and a joint investigation between the Marianna Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is underway with additional charges possible.
Fatimah Borders was arrested on charges of Grand Theft and Resisting a Merchant. Alexander Williams was arrested on an outstanding warrant and possession of hydrocodone and possession of marijuana under 20 grams.
