Single Vehicle Accident sends One to the Hospital

On September 22, 2018 at approximately 11:26 a.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to the area of Jefferson St. just south of South St. in reference to a single vehicle turnover crash.

Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle which was turned over onto its’ passenger side, on the east side embankment of the road. Officer’s and emergency personnel quickly located the driver, later identified as Maranda Shiver of Altha Florida. Shiver was still entrapped inside the vehicle and was unresponsive. She was the only occupant of the vehicle.  After emergency personnel were able to remove Shiver from the vehicle, she was transported by Jackson County EMS to Jackson Hospital to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

During investigation, officers determined that Shiver was traveling North on Jefferson St. when she entered the south bound lane and nearly struck an oncoming car head-on. To avoid collision, Shiver over corrected, causing the vehicle to then enter the east side shoulder embankment. The vehicle then struck several small trees, rolled onto its’ passenger side, and began sliding down the embankment. The vehicle then came to rest against a power pole that was at the bottom of the embankment.

At the time of report, Shiver was still present at Jackson Hospital receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery.
