Special Called Dothan City Commission Meeting In Re Dothan City Manager

DOTHAN:      The Dothan City Commission held a special called Dothan City Commission at 4:30 PM this afternoon.

The purpose of the meeting was to change the contact the Dothan Commission made  Mike West this past Tuesday as Acting City Manager.

The last commission meeting Dothan Commissioners entered into a professional services agreement to make Mike West as Acting City Manager until April 30th. However RSA 

( Retirement Systems of Alabama ) contacted Dothan Personnel Director Delvik McKay informing him that a pay period had to pass before the City of Dothan can enter into a contract with Mike West.

With that the Dothan Commission had to have an emergency meeting changing the contract  with Mike West and changing the effective day January 20, 2019.

Beginning January 1, 2019 Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams will serve as Acting City Manager and on January 10, 2019 through January 20, 2019 Dothan Utilities Manager Billy Mayes will serve as Acting City Manager.

On January 20, 2019 Mike West will return as Acting City Manager. West will return on January 20th and will serve through April 30th. West will not be an employee of the City of Dothan but a "Independent Contractor" performing the duties of Dothan City Manager.

West will be paid $ 7,750.00 a month and $ 200.00 a month auto allowance.

If Dothan Commissioners appoint a City Manager prior to April 30 the contract could be terminated. If the Dothan Commissioners hire a City Manager West could remain for a period of time to help the new City Manager transition in.

The emergency meeting was due to rules of the Internal Revenue Service.

In February West announced to the Dothan Commission that he would retire at the end of 2018. The commission have been unable to hire a City Manager since that time.
