MONTGOMERY:

The House sponsor of a bill to repeal the requirement for a permit to carry a concealed handgun in Alabama says the bill is dead for this legislative session.

Rep. Isaac Whorton, R-Valley, said he had been told time had run out on the bill, which passed the Senate but has not emerged from a House committee.

Only two days remain in the legislative session after today.

The Senate passed Sen. Gerald Allen's bill in April by a vote of 25-8, with the eight Democratic senators casting the no votes.

The House Public Safety Committee held a public hearing on the House version of the bill in April. Five law enforcement officers spoke against it, while Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale and advocates from gun rights groups supported it.

NOTE:   Jefferson County Mike Hale represents Alabama's number 1 most UNSAFE City. And he is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the county which has allowed the crime to get out of control.
