STATE REP. PAUL LEE ANNOUNCES ALMOST $340,000 IN TECHNOLOGY AND SECURITY FUNDING FOR HOUSTON COUNTY SCHOOLS

State Rep. Paul Lee (R - Dothan) on Wednesday released the following statement to announce almost $340,000 in new funding that is being made available for school security enhancements, technology upgrades, and other needs in Houston County schools:
“As the state representative for House District 86, I am pleased to announce additional funding that has been secured to address critical needs in the Houston County school system.

Almost $340,000 in education funding will flow into Houston County from the Alabama Advancement and Technology Fund later this year, and these dollars may be used to purchase education technology and equipment, complete needed repairs and maintenance, and upgrade school bus fleets.

Recognizing the importance of keeping our children, teachers, and administrators free from harm while on campus, I was proud to join my fellow legislators in voting last session to allow school security equipment, enhancements, and updates to be purchased with these dollars, as well.

Even before this funding was secured, Houston County experienced an increase in new teachers being hired, new buses being added, increased classroom dollars, and a salary increase for instructors.  Education retirees also received a one-time bonus check in order to thank them for their years of service.

I am also proud to have supported the Wireless Infrastructure Renovation for Education Act, which is also known as the WIRED Act and promises to be a game changer for public education in Alabama.  When fully implemented, the WIRED Act, which was passed by my friend and colleague, State Rep. Donnie Chesteen, will provide wireless broadband Internet access in every K – 12 classroom in Alabama.

Working with the Houston County school system to provide our children with a 21st Century education that prepares them for the jobs of the future has been a highlight of my political service, and I look forward to continuing those efforts for many years to come.”
