STATEMENT OF HOUSTON COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER RICKY MOORE.
Last night at our board meeting the motion to approve a project for bathrooms and concession areas for Cottonwood High School Baseball Complex was voted down. The funding for this project is in the current budget, which was unanimously approved earlier this year. However, certain members of the Houston County Board of Education voted against this project as a personal vendetta against David Sewell and myself. They hold a grudge against Mr. Sewell because he was the victor during the superintendent’s race, soundly defeating a family member of two current board members. They have a problem with me because I, along with my extended family, whole heartedly support Mr. Sewell.
These elected officials are allowing their personal feelings towards Mr. Sewell and myself to interfere with their ability to make sound decisions for the students of Houston County Schools. The decision to vote against the Cottonwood ball field project was nothing more than an effort to micromanage the efforts of our current superintendent. Sewell and I are from the Cottonwood community and certain board members are determined to derail any effort for growth at Cottonwood High School. School board members should act in the best interest of the school system as a whole and not make decisions that are personally and politically motivated. The student athlete’s deserve a facility that is equal to facilities at other county schools. These gentlemen denied the student athletes at Cottonwood that privilege.
