May 16, 2017 - Stephanie Butler is entering the race for Dothan City School Board, District 5. Butler is currently Director of Community Engagement at Larry Blumberg and Associates, Inc. (LBA). Before joining LBA, she taught public high school for seven years, and prior to that worked as a religious educator and program director for ten years.

Butler’s many years as an educator and advocate for public schools have led her to choose to seek public office to ensure that Dothan’s students receive the best education possible. She released the following statement:

“A community is only as strong its schools. And Dothan deserves the best. We have passionate local school leaders, some of the best educators in the state are right here in Dothan, and our local non-profits, business leaders and faith-based communities are highly engaged in supporting our public schools. It’s time to mobilize all of our resources toward one goal: excellence in education.”

Butler’s priorities are focusing on sustaining the programs, like our magnet schools, which create excellent student outcomes, working to raise the bar for all of our schools, and insisting on responsible stewardship of our schools’ resources. “Providing for the education of all of our children is an essential obligation of our community. Every student is important. Every student should graduate high school prepared for the next step, whether that is college or a highly-skilled career. Local leaders in business and economic development should be certain that our graduates are ready to be the next generation workforce. And every dollar is important. Dollars for education are ever more scarce, so it’s incumbent upon us to monitor our programs to ensure they are providing positive results for our students.”

Butler is a 2000 graduate of the University of Alabama and has lived in Dothan since 2009. Her husband, Kevin, is a Regional Director of Operations at LBA. Their two sons attend Montana Magnet Elementary School. Butler has been heavily involved with local education issues, volunteering on the Mayor’s Blueprint Education Committee, MORE Dothan committees, and working with district leadership to create and lead professional development sessions for Dothan City School principals. Butler serves on numerous local boards, is a member of the Dothan Tuesday Rotary Club, and is a leader and educator at Dothan’s Temple Emanu-El.
