What should every kid know how to do before they move out of the house? They should know basic life skills,and one of those is cooking. PorktoberQue has been pushing kids to learn how to grill for the past 6 years, and is pleased to again offer the KIDS QUE this month at the Farm Center. It is sponsored by Academy Sports+Outdoors, and every child entering will receive a charcoal grill THAT THEY CAN KEEP after the event is over.

They will be grilling steaks (provided) and will be competing for trophies and Academy Sports+Outdoors Gift Cards. But the real winner is the kids. They learn a little about cooking, learn it’s fun, and will be competing near the professionals who are cooking for a chance to win thousands of dollars. There are two age divisions for students- Junior Grillers (8-12) and Senior Grillers (13-18) and there are prizes for the top 5 in each age group. 

It’s $10 to enter, and for that money you get a grill ($20 value), 2 steaks ($8 value), charcoal to cook with ($4 value) and 2 admission tickets to PorktoberQue ($10 value), so you’re getting a 4:1 return on your investment. But the real return on investment is in helping your child learn about grilling and competing in a fun and friendly environment.

The competition is Saturday September 30 at 9am at the Houston County Farm Center. The free grills are limited to the first 50 kids to sign up.
