ALABAMA:    Dothan's own home grown has qualified for Alabama Supreme Court Justice.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey recently picked 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Brad Mendheim to fill a vacancy on the Alabama Supreme Court. Judge Mendheim has qualified for that seat, a state wide election, seeking to be elected to a full term.

Judge Mendheim was the only Judge in the 20th Judicial Circuit that was elected to serve. All other Judges, and District Court Judges in Houston County, started as being appointed by a Governor.

Brad Mendheim worked as a Prosecutor in the 20th Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office. When then Judge Bill McFatter retired Brad Mendhein ran for office and was elected as Houston County District Court Judge.

Then when a vacancy came for Circuit Court Judge, Mendheim ran for election as Circuit Court Judge and was elected.

Now he was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice by Governor Kay Ivey. Accepting that appointment made Mendheim have to put together a state wide campaign for the primary in June. Note: Mendheim's Circuit Judgeship in the 20th Judicial Circuit was through 2020.
