SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR IDENTITY THEFT

DeFuniak Springs Police investigated a theft case that involved a scheme to use the victim’s personal and banking information for his gain.  According to the victim, William Christopher Strickland used their bank account information to withdraw differing amounts that totaled over $900. 


Additionally, Strickland used the victim’s personal information to open financing accounts without permission.  The victim was able to contact the companies and close the accounts before further fraud could occur.  “This suspect was caught in the early stages and thankfully prevented from causing more damage,” said Chief Mark Weeks.  “Suspects in identity theft cases are hard to catch and often get away.” 


Strickland was located at his home and arrested.  During his arrest he was found to have heroin and needles on his person.  Strickland was transported to the Walton County Jail where he was charged with Identity Theft and Grand Theft.  He is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.
