Detectives investigating a series of thefts came up on a suspect who didn’t want to cooperate. Although refusing to talk to the Police is not a crime, having warrants is. 30 year old David Earl Cotton foundout that its best not to run from Officers and then want to fight. DeFuniak Springs Police Detectives and Investigators with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office approached Cotton in hisyard on Old Landfill Road, but he began walking away. Cotton then running as Detectives and nvestigators gave chase.
Cotton scaledseveral fences and continued running until Detectives caught him. That’s when Cotton engaged in a fist fight with Detectives. He was subdued andtaken into custody. Deputies transported
Cotton to the Walton County Jail on DeFuniak Springs Police Charges of Batteryon a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting an Officer with Violence, Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Cotton has an active warrant out of HolmesCounty and will be transferred after Walton County charges are settled. One Detective involved received minor injuries in the incident.#WCSOFL
