On 9-5-18 at approximately 3:30pm, a Concerned Citizen contacted the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office to report a Prowler / Suspicious Person in the area of Mt. Olive AME Church located at 2135 Fairview Rd. Marianna, Florida 32448.
The citizen stated that a white male appeared to be attempting to conceal himself behind the Church. Upon arrival of a Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division, he made contact with a W/M, later identified as Franklin L. Darrah. The Deputy did observe a vehicle parked behind the church. During the course of the Investigation, it was learned that Darrah had been attempting to siphon fuel from a Church Van.
When approached by the Deputy, Darrah ran back to his vehicle, and fled southbound on Fairview Rd. The Deputy then initiated a vehicle pursuit as Darrah drove from the Church fleeing at high speeds in excess of 80 mph. Darrah drove his vehicle into the oncoming lane without regard for other motorists causing a School Bus to stop on the shoulder of the roadway to avoid the fleeing vehicle. The pursuit ended when Darrah left the roadway after loosing control in an adjacent field.
