The Dreaded News Came Today - And Quite Frankly - We Lost

DOTHAN:    This election for Dothan Mayor and the Six Dothan Commissioners will feature all 7 running at one time.

And today what was feared happen:  Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz, in an emotional speech, announced that he would not be a candidate for re-election as Mayor of Dothan.

For the past almost 8 years Mike Schmitz has served the citizens of Dothan Alabama with much honor, dignity, respect and professionalism. He has been, perhaps, the best ambassador for Dothan Alabama that we have ever had.

Mike Schmitz truly loves Dothan Alabama and the Wiregrass area. He has worked long hours, at the expense of his family, his business and his personal wallet to create opportunities in the wiregrass for every one to have a better quality of life.

Mike Schmitz is honest, he has integrity, and has attempted to take opportunities for Dothan to be better. He has served as Mayor with more than 100% of his effort.

No matter who you are, no matter what your background or what your issue is, Mike Schmitz has taken the time to listen. And in listening he has attempted to work towards a successful solution.

Being Mayor of the City of Dothan has cost Mike Schmitz money. Unlike a lot of people in political office, never has Mike Schmitz attempted to use his position of Mayor to benefit himself or his family. The only people who have benefited from Mike Schmitz as Mayor of the City of Dothan is the people of the City of Dothan.

to Mike Schmitz, his beautiful wife Sandy and their son Micheal for allowing Mike to serve as Dothan's Mayor. 

As Mayor he has worked long hours for Dothan, but always with a service to the Wiregrass. His tenure as Mayor has benefited the people of Dothan, Geneva County, Dale County, Houston County, Henry County and the Wiregrass area.

And to Paul Padgett and the staff of Mercedes of Dothan, Mazda of Dothan, Hyundai of Dothan and Tri-States Off Road, THANK YOU for running the ship and allowing Mike the time to be the CEO of Dothan Alabama.

OKAY, WHO WILL BE THE NEXT MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DOTHAN ALABAMA?

Names are circulating. The "Boyz" have their chosen one they want to run for Mayor. But Mike Schmitz will be leaving shoes that will be difficult for someone to fill.

With Mike Schmitz announcement he will not seek re-election as Mayor, this leaves the field wide open for Dothan Mayor.

While the "boyz" have chosen and ordained who they want, by no means is that person a shoe in. Anyone with integrity and honesty has a chance to be the Mayor of the City of Dothan Alabama. 

Some names which have been circulated, they are men of integrity and honor. But there are no front runners at this time.
