Theft Call Leads to an Arrest

On November 28th, 2018 the Marianna Police Department received a report of a trailer theft that occurred on November 27th, 2018 on Decatur Street. The victim reported that their new heavy duty utility trailer, valued at $6,400, was stolen from the driveway of a residence on Decatur Street. On November 28th, 2018, the trailer was recovered on Paradise Club Road, in the Dellwood community. On November 29th, 2018 the Marianna Police Department was made aware of video that was obtained which showed a suspect vehicle which had the stolen trailer in tow. The vehicle was a white in color, Dodge dually.
The photographs and information were released showing the suspect vehicle to surrounding agencies and the media. On December 2nd, 2018 Sgt. Shane Tipton with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Marianna Police Department, advising he initiated a traffic stop on the suspected Dodge truck, just outside of the city on Highway 90. A Marianna Police Department Officer made contact with Sgt. Tipton and the driver of the Dodge truck. Marianna Police Department Officer spoke with the driver of the Dodge dually and, the driver admitted to taking the trailer from Decatur Street.
Upon the conclusion of the investigation, Officers placed the driver of the truck, John Christopher Johnston, under arrest for Grand Theft of the trailer. Johnston was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility where he will await first appearance.
