ALABAMA: The Executive Director for the Alabama Association of County Commissioners, Sonny Brasfield, does a report called "GOAT HILL" after each week of the Alabama Legislature.
On Thursday the Legislators closed out the 2018 Legislative Session. Brasfield gives a summary of activities of the Legislature. But he also gives recommendations on what to ask candidates seeking office.
While most think the chance to seek office is over, it is not. There are a lot of rumors swirling around of potential Independent candidates seeking election. A independent candidate is like Alabama Senator Harri Anne Smith was.
Some of those rumors are legislative races and some are local races.
With the actions of people in office, most especially with sitting Republican's and their stupid activity, the climate is very ripe for persons seeking election. The registered voters are tired of people in office doing stupid things - which are Republicans and Democrats.
The Republicans spent over $ 8 million dollars attempting to beat Senator Harri Anne Smith. They were never able to and she beat their buttocks as an Independent Candidate. It took Senator Smith retiring to beat her. Because the "chosen one " Republican Donnie Chesteen would not have been able to unseat Senator Smith.
We are working to confirm some of the rumors, but we wanted to explain the process to seek election as an Independent.
On the Alabama Secretary of State web site there are forms to down load which are petitions. You get signatures of registered voters. Those must be turned in prior to June 5th. At that time you will be certified to run as an Independent Candidate. You do not have to run, but you are certified eligible to run in the November General Election if you decide.
For some of the local races, only about 705 registered voter signatures are required:
CURRENT LOCAL RACES:
