THIS WEEKEND  On Friday night a man shoots a Auburn Police Officer after the suspect is alleged to have committed a robbery.

Law Enforcement from across the state and region converged on Lee County and Barbour County. The suspect was from Barbour County.

Fire, EMS and Medical Staff in Lee County sprang into action. The officer was shot in the face, upper chest, side and back. He was rushed to the hospital in Opelika and later transferred to Birmingham to UAB. He is instable condition.

The investigation and manhunt consisted of municipal, county, state and federal officers. The suspect was found in an apartment and a gun battle took place with the apartment  catching on fire. The suspect and an unidentified female died either by the man killing his female companion and himself and burning to death in the fire. No other civilians, law enforcement, fire or EMS were injured.

JOB WELL DONE IN LEE COUNTY ALABAMA

DOTHAN, ALABAMA

Just before midnight in Dothan on North Bell Street Dothan 911 rolled officers to a shooting. The victim was found near the Dollar General on North Bell and Montgomery Highway. The victim had a gunshot to the hand.

Dothan Police Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Technicians worked the scene. Details are forthcoming on that shooting. The victim did not have life threatening injuries.

MISSISSIPPI

A 12 hour standoff in Mississippi resulted in four people being killed. The stand off was a result of a domestic dispute. An extensive operation that unfortunately claimed four lives.

SAMSON ALABAMA ( GENEVA COUNTY )

Then Saturday morning in the quiet town of Samson Alabama located in western Geneva County. A former Samson Police Officer, who was fired in December, Chad Green shot to death his wife or girlfriend.

That incident again marked a cooperative investigation of municipal, county, state and federal officers.

An intense investigation by Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms, Alabama State Bureau of Investigation, United States Marshall's Service was underway. This afternoon that search ended in Montgomery County Alabama. As Montgomery County Sheriff Deputies and other law enforcement officers approached the suspect the former officer turned his gun on himself and shot himself. The former officer was rushed to the hospital but died from injuries of the self inflicted wound.

BARBOUR COUNTY

A ongoing dispute between two people in Barbour County ended Saturday when one shot and killed the other.

Allegations are Corey Forshee shot and killed Kenneth Phillips. In the beginning the allegations were Phillips was shot as he was breaking into the house of Forshee. However Barbour County Sheriff Tyrone Smith and Barbour County Sheriff Deputies have booked Corey Forshee into the Barbour County Jail and he is booked on charges of murder.

Sheriff Smith has been in office as Barbour County Sheriff for one month. He inherited a huge mess left by former Barbour County Sheriff Leroy Upshaw.

We had originally thought Alabama State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist in the death investigation. We have since learned that Alabama State Bureau of Investigation was not called into the case.

SPIRIT OF COOPERATION BETWEEN LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES

CONSISTING OF MUNICIPAL, COUNTY, STATE AND FEDERAL

ALONG WITH FIRE, EMS AND MEDICAL STAFF

While I was not on all of these scenes, I did have the occasion to be on one of the scenes of violence this weekend.

The spirit of cooperation from agencies from all walks of life, municipal-county-state-federal, law enforcement-fire-EMS-Medical was terrific.

These law enforcement officers quickly and without hesitation placed their lives on the line to search for the shooting and murder suspects. And some of those officers were from multiple agencies in this area.

On behalf of all of the citizens of Alabama and the wiregrass area, THANK YOU to each of you for the spirit of cooperation and dedication, the willingness to place your lives on the line in order to serve and protect.

It takes a "TEAM" that does not worry about municipal, county or state boundries to work together when emergencies happen. No egos or the words " I ", but the words "we" working hand in hand for the same common goal and purpose.

While the local beginnings involved a officer being shot, and some incidents that occurred began by someone shooting another, once law enforcement initiated their paths, directions and searches, NO INNOCENT PERSON OR OFFICER was injured or killed as a result of the manhunt and searches.

That says a lot about the men and women in blue, along with the fire, EMS and medical staff.
