Three Arrested on Burglary Charges

On April 17, 2019, the Communications Center of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received information that 2 Hispanic males were attempting to break into residences located north of Greenwood on Hwy 71 in a mobile home park. A Deputy was dispatched to the area and upon arrival, observed 2 Hispanic males walking in the mobile home park. Contact was made with the males and they were detained pending this investigation. The males were identified as Jesus Santos and Jesus Zapata.
A witness advised the deputy that he observed the 2 males knocking on doors. The witness stated that the males would grab the door knobs and attempt to open the doors of these residences. The witness also gave the deputy a description of a vehicle that had dropped the 2 males off at the park. The vehicle was described as a silver Nissan SUV. This vehicle was observed in the area and seen leaving at the time the 2 males were detained. This vehicle information was relayed to dispatch and other deputies.
A deputy was travelling north on Highway 71, headed to assist the other deputy on scene. The deputy observed the subject vehicle travelling south on Highway 71. The deputy turned around and conducted an investigative stop on the vehicle. The driver of the SUV was identified as Daniel Chavez.
At the conclusion of this investigation, Santos and Zapata were charged with Attempted Burglary of a dwelling. Chavez was charged with Driving with no valid driver’s license. All three were taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance. This investigation is still pending.
