HOUSTON COUNTY: Tonight Houston County District 2 Commissioner Doug Sinquefield held a town hall meeting inat the Cottonwood Town Hall. Commissioner Sinquefield brought with him Houston County Engineer Kirkland and his staff to explain and answer questions. They gave an update on the FEMA and explained that there are steps that have to be followed when dealing with FEMA.
They also talked about the Stateline Road project and why it was taking so long to get it fixed. Some of the folks at the meeting were not happy with the information being given. Stateline Road was closed two week before Hurricane Michael struck. Michael destroyed that the county had already done to repair the drainage on Stateline, and at the same time caused even more damage to the area.
According to Engineer Kirkland now the county had to start over and repair the damage that Michael caused on top of the original work that had to be done. Since the repair and damage caused by Michael was more than they had planned for FEMA was brought in to help offset some of the cost.
Now FEMA and EPA were involved several steps have to be done before work can restart on the area. Citizens of Cottonwood were not happy about the inconvenience and the longer time to get the project completed.
Engineer Kirkland and Commissioner Sinquefield explained there is a legality that has to be followed when dealing with the government.
