DOTHAN: As the City of Dothan grows, so do the number of vehicles on our roadway. It is most evident on the west side of Dothan. A common problem we have with traffic is at West Main and Ross Clark Circle during heavy traffic periods. These periods are normally during the weekday during the times of 7 -8, 11-12, and 3 -5. The intersection here often gets blocked by traffic. This impedes traffic flow and causes more delays than necessary. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that there is ample space to clear the intersection before entering. A citation can be issued if the driver finds themselves blocking the intersection waiting for traffic to advance.
The Law
§ 32–5A–61. Driver not to proceed where traffic obstructed.
No driver shall enter an intersection or a marked crosswalk or drive onto
any railroad grade crossing unless there is sufficient space on the other side
of the intersection, crosswalk, or railroad grade crossing to accommodate
the vehicle he or she is operating without obstructing the passage of other
vehicles, pedestrians, or railroad trains notwithstanding any traffic-control
signal indication to proceed. (Acts 1980, No. 80–434, p. 604, § 11–112.)
