Traffic Stop, Driver Fleas and then goes to Jail

During the early morning hours of 8/20/2018, Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office were traveling west on Lafayette street when another vehicle proceeded into the travel lane of the lead patrol car. The vehicle had been at a stop sign located at the intersection of Hwy 73 north and Lafayette Street. As the patrol car approached the intersection the vehicle pulled in front of the patrol car, causing the deputy to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle for the traffic violation and to check the welfare of the driver. Upon stopping the car, contact was made with the driver who was identified to be Juqon Douglas, 21 Y/O.  While deputies were in the process of conducting the traffic stop, Juqon, suddenly sped away from the traffic stop attempting to flee the area.

Deputies attempted to get the driver to stop the vehicle, but he would not yield. Juqon continued driving in a reckless manner attempting to evade deputies. The vehicle pursuit continued for approximately 10 minutes until Juqon was unable to maintain control of his vehicle, causing his vehicle to spin out. Deputies who were close behind were able to prevent the vehicle from re entering the roadway, effectively bringing an end to the vehicle pursuit. Juqon did attempt to flee on foot but was apprehended a few moments later by deputies.
