Traffic Stop Lands One in Jail on Drug Charges

On November 26, 2017, Officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a 2016 Honda Civic for a traffic infraction.
Upon making contact with the driver, Johnathan Shack, Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana. As Shack retrieved the registration from his glove compartment, Officers observed a plastic bag of marijuana.
Shack was arrested and a probable cause search was conducted of the vehicle. Officers located approximately one half pound of marijuana, some prepackaged for sale, scales and plastic bags. All items associated with the distribution of narcotics. Shack had the items with the intent to sell within 1000 feet of the Public Housing Area on Rockwell St and Oak St.
Shack was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a Public Housing Area. He was transported to the Jackson County Correction Facility to await first appearance.
Chief Baggett urges the citizens of Marianna to report suspicious behavior and activities to the Marianna Police Department at 850-526-3125.
