On March 09, 2018 a Deputy Sheriff with the Uniform Patrol Division was on patrol in the area of Hwy 71 and Simsville Road in Marianna, Florida. While on patrol the Deputy observed a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon the Deputy making contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as John Joseph Raines, he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from within the interior of the vehicle. When the Deputy asked Raines if there were any illegal narcotics inside of the vehicle Raines made a statement that there was a substantial amount of “dope” within the vehicle.
A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed the following: in the driver’s side door a digital scale was recovered. The scale had methamphetamine residue on the exterior. Adjacent to the digital scale a black in color bag was recovered. The bag contained drug paraphernalia that is consistant with that of inhaling illicit narcotics into the body. A small plastic container was recovered along with a marijuana grinder that both contained marijuana residue. The bag also contained several individual “baggies” of a prepackaged crystalized substance. The substance was field tested which returned favorable results of the substance being crystal methamphetamine or “ICE”. The total weight of the suspected methamphetamine was more than 14 grams, which is a First Degree Felony in the State of Florida.
John Joseph Raines was placed under arrest and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
