On March 20, 2018 a Deputy Sheriff with the Uniform Patrol Division was on patrol in the area of Kynesville Road in Marianna, Florida. While on patrol, the Deputy observed a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon the Deputy making contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Darrell Watkins, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle.
A probable cause search of the vehicle from the odor of marijuana revealed the following: adjacent to the driver's seat a burnt marijuana cigarette was located. In a container in the driver's compartment the Deputy recovered approximately 24.67 grams of a crystallized substance. The substance was field tested which returned favorable results for the substance being methamphetamine. Along with the suspected methamphetamine, multiple unused sealed jewelry style “baggies” were recovered, which is conducive with the sale distribution of illegal narcotics. In the State of Florida, an amount of methamphetamine over fourteen grams is a First Degree Felony.
At the conclusion of the traffic stop, Darrell Watkins was placed under arrest and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
Darrell Watkins, 51years of age, from Alford, Florida.
Charges: Trafficking in Methamphetamine
Possession of Marijuana less than 20 grams
Possession of drug paraphernalia.
