Traffic Stop Lands One in Jail on Drug Charges

On Sunday, August 5, 2018 members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received complaints of a reckless driver traveling on Pennsylvania Ave. towards I-10. After observing a 2007 BMW exhibiting behaviors of reckless driving in that area, a traffic stop was initiated upon the vehicle. The driver continued to display suspicious behavior and continued to travel West on Kynesville Rd for approximately 2 miles before eventually yielding to emergency lights.
Upon approaching the driver, Deputies became suspicious of the possibility of impairment. Deputies observed suspected Marijuana pieces scattered on the driver’s shirt and pants. A probable cause search of the driver’s person and vehicle were conducted. A large quantity of suspected Marijuana was retrieved from the trunk of the vehicle. Also located during the searches was a small quantity of suspected Methamphetamine.
The driver was identified as Kelvin Martin of Tulsa, OK. Subsequently, it was determined that Martin was left his residence in OK and was attempting to travel to his brother’s residence in Fayettville, AK. Martin did admit to utilizing Marijuana throughout this endeavor and ultimately resulted in him reaching Jackson County, FL. Relatives of Martin were reached out to in attempts to inform them of his well-being.
