On September 8th, 2018 a K-9 Deputy Sheriff with the Uniform Patrol Division was on patrol in the area of Fanny St in Cottondale, Florida. While on patrol, the Deputy observed a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, the front passenger, identified as Donjarell R. Bellamy, made furtive moments, reaching his hands inside the waistband of his pants.
The passenger was asked to exit the vehicle and placed in handcuffs due to his actions. A partial pat search was conducted and during the search, a clear plastic jar was located on his person which appeared to contain illegal narcotics. The jar was seized as evidence and as the Deputy was affecting the arrest, Mr. Bellamy was able to remove one side of the handcuff, push away from the Deputy, grab the clear plastic jar, and flee the scene on foot.
After a brief foot pursuit, Mr. Bellamy was apprehended. A search of Mr. Bellamy's person was conducted and a small plastic container was located which contained suspected marajuana, but the plastic jar was not located on Mr. Bellamy.
