Traffic Stop Lands Three in Jail on Drug Charges

A traffic stop by Washington County Sheriff’s deputies led to a drug investigation and the arrest of 4 people yesterday.

Washington County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a vehicle near the entrance of Circle H convenience store in Vernon just before 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.  During the stop K9 Jet performed a perimeter search of the vehicle which led to the alert of narcotics at the passenger door. 

Once all occupants were removed from the vehicle, a passenger identified as Bridgett Ortega, 32, of Defuniak Springs was found to have a glass pipe hidden under her clothing.  A search of the vehicle resulted in deputies locating a purse that contained 2 digital scales, a hypodermic needle, and a can that contained methamphetamine.  Located on the dash of the vehicle was a needle, which field tested positive for methamphetamine.

The driver, 41-year-old Christopher Dwight Ford, of Vernon, was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was booked on the charge of possession of paraphernalia. 

Further charges are pending at this time.

As a result of this traffic stop, a drug investigation by Washington County Drug Task Force began and resulted in three other arrests.
