On Saturday, June 16, 2018, a deputy with the JCSO Narcotic Interdiction Unit, was traveling on Hwy 71 North, near Merritt's Mill Road and conducted a traffic stop on a red Toyota 2 door, for an equipment violation. Contact was made with the driver, Chastity Brown, and her front
seat passenger, Scotty Williams. The deputy requested another unit conduct a K9 sniff of the vehicle and when the occupants were asked to step from the vehicle, Brown was observed concealing suspected narcotics in her pants. Both parties were detained and Brown was discovered to have concealed a glass smoking pipe and suspected marijuana inside her pants. A search of the vehicle also yielded a small jewelry bag with a clear, crystal-like substance (suspected to be methamphetamine). Field test of the substance did yeild favorable results as the substance being methamphetamine.
Williams was detained in a marked patrol unit, during the search, due to furtive movements. When Williams was removed and search conducted of the back of the unit, a folded piece of paper, containing rocks of suspected methamphetamine were located, next to a lighter that Williams had brought into the vehicle.
Both Williams and Brown were determined to be on State Probation during this contact with law enforcement. Williams and Brown were transported to the Jackson County Jail to await first appearance.
