Traffic Stop Leads to Three Arrested

On Thursday, August 24th, 2017, a Patrol Deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Division while on patrol in the area of Hwy 71 S and Magnolia Rd, conducted a probable cause traffic stop on a white in color Infiniti four door sedan located at the parking lot of McDonald’s on Hwy 71 South. Upon making contact with the occupants, a male passenger later identified as James R. Norton, provided the deputy with false identification information.


During the course of the traffic stop, the deputy discovered a driver’s license with the correct information for Mr. Norton. A foot pursuit ensued after snatching away from the deputy when being detained and Mr. Norton was taken into custody shortly after. Consent to search the vehicle was given by the driver, identified as Savanna Summerlin. During the search of the vehicle, the deputy located several illicit items within Ms. Summerlin’s purse, contained within a sunglasses case.


A contact lens case was located containing a crystal like substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine. Several hypodermic needles and plastic baggies containing a similar crystal like residue was also located. Subsequently a metal case pink in color was also located within reach of both Mr. Norton and a second back seat passenger identified as Jessica Deese. Upon the deputy’s observation of its contents, several more contact lens cases were located containing suspected methamphetamine.


The case also containing several items consistent with the illicit drug trade containing suspected methamphetamine residue. Upon conclusion of the incident all the three individuals were placed under arrest and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
