Tragedy Averted Today at Calhoun County Daycare

Tragedy was averted Wednesday afternoon when a gunman tried to enter a Calhoun County daycare to get his toddler daughter, authorities said this afternoon.


The daycare worker, however, blocked his entrance despite the man's threats to kill everyone in the building, said Sheriff Matthew Wade. "I call her a hero,'' the sheriff said. "In today's world, you don't know how you would react, but you hope you would react the way she did."


Wade identified the suspect as Daniel Blake Turner, 23, of Anniston.
