HOUSTON COUNTY:     Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched Ashford UNPAID PROFESSIONAL FIRE and Cowarts UNPAID PROFESSIONAL Fire to a structure fire, mobile home occupied at about 3:30 PM today ( Saturday ).

The dispatched location was Fellows Road just off Highway 84 East between Cowarts and Ashford.

Mr. Richard Odom, who works with the City of Ashford and his wife had passed by and saw the structure on fire. They stopped. Mr. Darrell Austin was passing by and the Odom's flagged him down and Austin then realized the trailer was on fire.

Mr. Odom and Mr. Austin ran to the trailer and started yelling if anyone was in the house. As they got the door open the flashback was strong. They saw the blinds on the window melt and drop to the floor.

At about that time they saw a male subject appear in the mobile home that was filled with fire and smoke. The resident was able to get to a window and Mr. Odom and Mr. Austin busted the window and removed the man from the residence.

The man suffered some cuts and smoke inhalation. Ashford Rescue responded to the scene but the man refused transport to the hospital.

The homeowner told RSN that he was asleep on the couch and heard yelling at which time he woke up to choke on smoke.

Ashford and Cowarts Fire worked a defensive attack only of the residence.

Ashford Police and Houston County Sheriff Deputies responded. Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management was on the scene.

Houston County Commissioner Doug Sinquefield responded to the scene. Commissioner Sinquefield has always responded to the scenes during his 8 years ministering to the citizens, officers and first responders when tragedy has struck.

Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland also responded, assisting and ministering to the people in need.
