Uninsured motorists set to face civil penalties starting Wednesday

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials are set to begin enforcing a law requiring all motorists to have liability insurance Wednesday.

The Alabama Mandatory Liability Insurance Law was passed during the 2016 legislative session. According to the law, no person shall operate, register or maintain registration of a motor vehicle designed to be used on a public road or highway unless it is covered by liability insurance policy.

According to ALEA, beginning Wednesday those who choose to drive without liability insurance will face a civil penalty.
