United Way Worldwide has declared February 11th as National 2-1-1 Day by recognizing the powerful resource that local 2-1-1 call centers are to connecting residents to crucial health and social services throughout the year. On Monday February 11th, the Wiregrass Marine Corps League Detachment 752, will present a check to Wiregrass 2-1-1 at 1:30 p.m. in honor of National 2-1-1 Day. The Marine Corps League has supported Wiregrass 2-1-1 since its inception. The check presentation will take place at the 2-1-1 office located at 545 West Main St., Suite 313 in Dothan. The public is invited to attend.

Every day thousands of people across the U.S. turn to 2-1-1 for information and support—whether financial, domestic, health or disaster-related. 2-1-1 is a free, confidential referral and information service that connects people from all communities and of all ages to a specialist who will help you find local health and human services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 2-1-1 is a free service and available throughout the U.S. by phone, text, chat and web. A toll-free call to 2-1-1 connects you to a community resource specialist in your area who can help you find services and resources that are available to you locally and provide critical services that can improve and save lives.

2-1-1, www.211us.org, was first launched by United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta in 1997 and is spearheaded by United Ways and information & referral agencies in states and local communities. United Ways have a long-standing tradition of commitment to funding information and referral (I&R) services in their respective communities.

For 11 years, Wiregrass 2-1-1 has been bringing people and services together. Over 153,000 calls have been answered. 273,000 referrals for those calls were provided to programs that help people living right here in our local communities. Whether it’s a mom concerned about her son who is addicted to meth, a family in need of food assistance or an elderly couple needing trees removed from their house after a terrible storm, contacting 2-1-1 is the first step to regaining stability back in their lives.

The Wiregrass 2-1-1 program would not be here without support from Wiregrass United Way and our local communities. You can help by clicking on the “Donate” tab at our website at: www.Wiregrass211.com or mailing a donation to Wiregrass 2-1-1 at 545 West Main St., Suite 313, Dothan, Alabama 36301. 100% of your contribution will remain local.

Thank you for your continued support. For additional information visit Wiregrass211.com or “Wiregrass 2-1-1” on Facebook. If dialing 2-1-1 doesn’t work from your phone, dial 1-888-421-1266.
