CLAY COUNTY GEORGIA:  We have recieved reports that a Clay County Georgia Deputy was shot this morning and is being transported to a Dothan Hospital.


The extent of his injuries are not known at this time. Houston County Deputies are escorting from the county line to the hospital. No more information is avaible at this time.


UPDATE @ 11:39:  The ambulance is entering the Houston County at this time.  Houston County deputies and the Dothan Police are escorting the amulance around to the SAMC.

The Clay County Georgia Sheriff Deputy ( Ft. Gaines ) was serving a restraining order when he was shot in the stomach area.


Clay County EMS transported the Sheriff Deputy to Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan. As the ambulance hit Henry County, Abbeville Police and Henry County Sheriff Deputies took over escort of the Clay County EMS clearing the roadway and escorting to SAMC. As they entered Headland, the same Headland Police Department cleared the intersections and stopped traffic.


Houston County Sheriff Patrol Lt. Ivey met them at the Houston - Henry County line and picked up the lead of the officers and Clay County ambulance. Dothan Police Department blocked intersections so the ambulance did not have to slow down.


There were questions if the Clay County Ambulance might be possibly overheating so Joey Pilcher of Pilcher Ambulance and Larry Williams of Dothan Fire Department had a ambulance and paramedic fire engines in the route of travel in the event there were any vehicle issues.


When the arrived the reports are the Clay County Sheriff Deputy was conscious and talking. A suspect has been taken into custody.


Clay County Georgia ( Ft. Gaines ) is a small rural county. They have the Sheriff and a couple of deputies. Information that I am receiving is they do not have bullet proof vests because of the cost.


Anyone wishing to contribute to vests for the Clay County Deputies contact your local FOP through the law enforcement agencies or the Clay County Sheriff.


A great show of Alabama concern and respect to get the deputy to the hospital quickly.
