UPDATE at 2:23 - The Holmes County Sheriff's Office has identified a person of interest in connection to the death of Caryville resident Bruce Edward McCullough (49), officials wrote in a news release.

David John Vandebogart, 53, of Caryville, is currently in custody and being help at the Holmes County Jail on other charges of obstruction of justice by intimidating a witness, aggravated battery, and felony battery.

"We are continuing to treat the death as a homicide until the autopsy can be conducted on Wednesday morning and a cause of death can be provided," officials wrote. "More charges could be pending after the result of examination of evidence collected, as well as the results of autopsy by the Medical Examiner's Office."

We are continuing to examine the evidence in the case and encourage anyone with any information related to this investigation to contact the sheriff's office.

Vandebogart's bond has been set at $110,000.

CARYVILLE, FL— According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, they have confirmed the identity of the body found in Caryville October 9, as Bruce Edward McCullough, 49, of Caryville.

McCullough was reported missing October 4, after not being seen since around noon the previous day. HCSO along with Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission searched the area around McCullough’s home on Bear Hewett Landing Road until Hurricane Nate stalled the search.

When the search resumed Monday, HCSO investigators discovered McCullough’s remains approximately a half a mile from his home, on Northwest Florida Water Management District land.

Authorities are treating the investigation as a homicide. Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Crime Scene Unit is processing the area where the body was found as well as the victim’s home and vehicle.
