UPDATED @ 8:49 PM
The accident involved one vehicle, a pickup truck, that was traveling from County Road 55 ( State Line Road ) towards downtown Madrid on Decatur Road. The vehicle approached the curve in the 2500 block of Decatur Road, went off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree, overturning on the left side of the truck.
When 911 received the call the Sheriff 911 Center was advised the person in the vehicle had head injuries and the vehicle as on fire.
On the arrival of emergency units the driver had exited the vehicle but was bleeding from the head. The vehicle was not on fire. There was a man on a lawnmower cutting grass just past the accident scene and was lucky the vehicle did not wipe him out.
Looking at the pictures of the damage to the vehicle. There was a car seat in the vehicle but PRAISE GOD there was no child in the vehicle.
The driver refused transport by ambulance and wanted to be transported to the hospital by family.
IN addition to Madrid Volunteer Fire and Hodgesville Volunteer Fire, Cottonwood Volunteer Rescue, Pilcher Ambulance, Houston County Sheriff Deputies Stacey and McKinney, Alabama State Trooper McAllister, and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management were on the scene.
Speed was the contributing factor to the accident.
