PONCE DE LEON - Holmes County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a drowning that took place at Vortex Spring Wednesday, August 8.
HCSO responded to the scene shortly before 1:30 p.m. The identity of the male victim is not yet being released pending family notification.

PONCE DE LEON – Holmes County Sheriff’s Office reports the identity of the victim in the August 8 drowning at Vortex Spring to be that of Terril Crossfield, 21, a man who was from Jamaica but residing in Pensacola. Deputies with HCSO responded to the scene shortly before 1:30 p.m. Witnesses stated that Crossfield had assisted another swimmer after noticing she had become distressed, and that after passing the swimmer to another bystander for help getting to the shore, Crossfield also became distressed and went underwater. A diver pulled Crossfield from the water, and CPR was in process when emergency responders arrived. Crossfield would later be pronounced deceased at the scene.
