COWARTS: 4:52 PM. You know it is bad when you hear Cowarts UNPAID PROFESSIONAL FIREMAN Jonathon Nall yelling on the radio.
Nall was at Dollar General when he heard the semi blowing his horn and Heard the impact. Nall was first on the scene.
On Nall’s arrival he found a overturned semi, a SUV with major damage, downed power lines that caught the grass on fire.
Dothan Fire Engine 5 ( Eastside ), Ashford Fire, Dothan Police, Houston County Sheriff Deputies, Alabama State Troopers and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management were on the scene.
Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland and Houston County Commissioner Doug Sinquefield were on the scene.
Alabama Power Company responded to the scene to cut the power so emergency workers could treat the patients. Three were transported by Pilcher Ambulance non emergency.
The west bound lanes of traffic were closed for an extended period of time.
Dothan Fire Haz Mat also responded.
The Truck Driver crawled out of a small space and almost on a live power line.

As clean up continues on the hwy, law enforcement has reopened one lane but one lane is still closed and will remain closed for several more hours due to cleanup. The traffic signals at this intersection are not working so use caution when traveling through it.
