UPDATED: CRESTVIEW STUDENT CHARGED WITH HAVING GUN ON CAMPUS

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon arrested a Crestview High School student for possession of a firearm on school grounds. The 15-year old was detained by the School Resource Officer after information was developed that he may be in possession of a handgun.


The gun was located in the student’s waistband. It was not loaded and no ammunition was found on the teen. Deputies say there were no known threats towards the school or any individuals by the student, who said he had the weapon for self-protection.

A Crestview High School student faces numerous felony charges after the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office found him in possession of a concealed firearm on school property. A School Resource Officer learned 15 year old Jabari Imani had been living in a shed behind a friend’s home on West Bowers Avenue and was believed to be in possession of a weapon.


Deputies went to the scene where the homeowner gave consent to search the shed. Deputies found a back pack and small hand bag under a tarp. Along with clothing, marijuana and other items, they found dozens of .22 rounds, a 9 mm magazine, and other ammunition.


Imani was located and detained by the School Resource Officer. An unloaded .22 caliber Ruger revolver was found in his waistband. No ammunition was located on his person, however a secondary search of Imani’s backpack turned up a half dozen .22 caliber rounds. Deputies say there were no known threats towards the school or any individuals by the student, who told them he had the weapon for self-protection after he left the school campus Imani is charged with possession of a firearm on school property, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of marijuana more than twenty grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
