COTTONWOOD:    10:06 PM    At 9:01 PM Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched a single motor vehicle accident on Fletcher Smith Road at Cottonwood. A Ford F-150 crashed through a fence and came to rest in the front yard of a residence in the 2500 block of Fletcher Smith Road.

Responding to the scene Cottonwood Police, Cottonwood Rescue, Cottonwood Fire and Alabama State Troopers. Within 30 to 60 seconds of hearing the cash the home owners were out of the house and in the front yard at the wreckage. But no one was to be found.

The Black Ford F-150 was still running but the driver fled the scene.

Emergency crews searched the area for the driver and any possible victims. Houston County Sheriff K-9 searched the area for the driver and/or victims. No one was found.

Houston County Sheriff Deputies went to home addresses for the registered owner and were unsuccessful in locating. Family said he had gone to the store.

Every effort was made to locate the driver and to make sure there was no one ejected or fled and collapsed. A car seat was in the vehicle but the child was accounted for. Both hospitals were checked and no patient had presented themselves.

The investigation continues.

UPDATED @ 1:48 AM

The driver has been located. More information to follow.

UPDATED SUNDAY @ 8:09 AM

The family of the driver continued to search after emergency responders left the scene. The son of Mr. Eddie White finally located Mr. White. He had been thrown from the wreckage and was deceased.

Emergency units responded back to the scene. Information from Houston County Sheriff 911 was the driver was found and was not breathing. Cottonwood Rescue responded and while enroute mutual aid requested Dothan Fire for advanced life assistance but Mr. White was deceased.

Mr. White was ejected from the vehicle and thrown a distance from the vehicle.

Emergency responders searched the area and the Sheriff Department bloodhound searched the area when first called. The searches did not locate Mr. White at the time of the call but did search the area, even across the road, in an effort to locate him.

Emergency responders walked both sides of the roadways and looked in the area. The blood hounds were used in efforts to locate him.  Some search was halted to allow the blood hound to have a scent to search. The bloodhound came from the scene towards the roadway.

After not being able to locate the victim the search was called.

Mr. White's son search did find his father. He was thrown a distance from the wreckage apparently through the window on the door of the vehicle. He was found under some debris about 100 yards from the wreckage.

Mr. White retired from Memory Hill Cemetary after about 25 years. He had White Outdoor Services. He was known to be a loving husband, granddad, and friend.

Mr. White owned and operated White's Outdoor Services for years. He left home going to the store when the accident occurred.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident at all.
