The inaugural Fundamentals of Modern Maintenance workshop, a partnership between Wallace Community College and Michelin, will begin on June 12. Career Coaches for Dothan City, Houston County, Henry County, Ozark City, and Dale County accepted applications for 9-11 graders to participate in the three-day events, slated for June 12-14 and June 19-21.

The workshops are from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Applied Engineering Technology building on the Wallace Campus. There are separate cohorts for each workshop. Best date and time is June 12 at 10:30 a.m. Students will be in the Applied Engineering Technology building (map attached). Joe Johnson, WCC director of workforce development, Steve Tice, WCC AET instructor and Tony Green (Michelin supervisor/trainer) will be available for an interview.

As you may have heard, employers find it difficult to find trained employees, and the jobs at Michelin can be specific. Wallace’s Applied Engineering Technology (AET) program is a conduit for these skills. AET instructor Steve Tice will conduct the on-campus portion of each workshop (held on Tuesday June 12 and 19). Students will work with hydraulic and pneumatic trainers during these sessions. On Wednesdays, students will work at Michelin on PLC trainers. They will take a plant tour on Thursdays. Michelin sponsors a Tech Scholar Program with Wallace.

This is the inaugural year for the workshops, which Wallace and Michelin hope to expand next year.
