Eufaula, Ala. – The Business Technologies program at Wallace Community College - Dothan has been awarded a grant from the Walmart Foundation Community Grant Program. The grant will help fund a portable computer lab to offer free basic computer classes at off-campus sites within the College’s service area.

Amy Greene, Business Technologies instructor at WCCD, received the $2,500 grant to develop the mobile computer lab. “A lack of computer access and reliable transportation creates educational and job readiness barriers,” said Greene.  “These barriers prevent many individuals from acquiring marketable job skills to secure a living-wage job.  To address the computer literacy needs of those with limited transportation and computer access, students enrolled in Business Technologies will assist with the project by applying the skills they learn in our Office Administration courses.”

The Walmart Foundation Community Grant Program supports the needs of their communities by providing grants to local organizations. Kaloeb Morris, assistant manager at Walmart in Eufaula, said, “We are pleased to partner with Wallace Community College on this project which will provide both service learning opportunities for Wallace students and additional resources for training for those with limited computer experience.”

For more information about the Wallace Community College Business Technologies Program – Student Service Learning Project, contact Amy Greene at 334-556-4254 or [email protected].
