According to Al.com: The nation’s largest retailer is changing its sick leave policy in an effort to reduce absenteeism.
Currently, Walmart’s hourly employees can miss up to nine days every six months for unexpected absences. The new policy cuts that to five but workers will also receive up to six days a year of “protected paid time off” that can be used for a variety of reasons, including illness or an emergency. The company’s vacation day policy isn’t changing.
The PTO change comes at the suggestion of employees, according to Drew Holler, Vice President of Associate Experience for Walmart U.S.
“We’re constantly testing, learning and seeking feedback to improve our stores for associates and customers. This change, along with previous wage investments, parental leave, adoption and other benefits, is another important step on our journey to be the employer of choice,” Holler said.
