Warming Station to Open Monday & Tuesday nights at The Harbor in Dothan

For the homeless and those that are unsheltered, The Harbor in downtown Dothan at 320 North Foster (corner of Foster & Burdeshaw), will open their facility as a warming station Monday night, January 1st and Tuesday night January 2nd.


Monday January 1st, the doors will open for the warming station from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. No check-in after 9 p.m. As temperatures rise Tuesday morning the warming station will close for the day at 8 a.m. Tuesday evening, January 2nd, doors open for the warming station from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. No check in after 9 p.m. As temperatures rise Wednesday morning the warming station will close for the day at 8 a.m. Cots will be spread out, and a warm place for each night will be available. Snacks, coffee and drinks will also be provided.


As always, public buildings in the city of Dothan such as recreation centers and libraries will be open during normal business hours for those who need a place to warm up during the daytime.


The weather forecast is being monitored daily. If an additional warming station is needed after Tuesday night of next week, the media and the public will be informed with specifics as soon as the decision is made. Dialing 2-1-1 is also available 24/7 to find out current warming shelter information and how you can help.


VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED for Monday and Tuesday nights. Six positions (at least two women) needed for the 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift or six positions needed for each split shift time of 7 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. to 7 a.m. If you are interested in volunteering, call The Harbor at 334-790-4031.
