DOTHAN: The HARBOR HOUSE on the corner of North Foster Street and East Burdeshaw Street is operational for people in need of warming stations.
Through a supporting community, and efforts of people like Dothan Police Dispatcher Supervisor/Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Amy Elliot several gave donations of supplies.
Those supplies were delivered by Matt Boster and Rickey Stokes of Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management to the Harbor House. Those supplies included bottled water, jelly, peanut butter and other eatable items.
We will get the name of some who donated. One was the Cottonwood Senior Citizens Center.
Also among the supplies were blankets and paper goods.
Houston County Sheriff Patrol Lt. Reichert came by checking thw safety and security of the warming station. That patrol will continue through the night.
Lt. Reichert has directed his deputies to make contact with those living in tent cities around the county and make efforts to get them into the warming stations.
Many in the community are not aware that Dothan and Houston County have several areas where homeless people live every day. In the woods and in tents. It is a real issue and problem in this area of caring for homeless people.
THANKS to all who helped in this effort.
