DOTHAN:     What an EXCITING time to be in Dothan Alabama.

The registered voters of the City of Dothan SPOKE loud and clear last evening.

MESSAGE NUMBER 1:

We are pleased in the direction the City of Dothan is sailing. Yes, we want a few changes, which is mostly attitudes in some departments. But overall, we have satisfaction in the way things are going.

That is indicated in the District 3, 5 and 6 races for Dothan Commission being unopposed.

That is indicated in that the registered voters sent John Ferguson back with a landslide victory and Kevin Dorsey with 51% over three challengers.

The District 2 race, no surprise in the fact the Commissioner Amos Newsome was defeated. A surprise of only 1 absentee vote!!!

Janesky Fleming and Jemmie Watford are in a run off.

Mark Saliba had "token" opposition. With 89% of the registered votes, I see a couple of messages the people sent to Mark Saliba: 1. This city respected the job performance, heart, and actions of your father, Alfred Saliba, when he served as Mayor. 2. The city has respect for you, Mark Saliba. And the people have confidence in your rolling up your sleeves, making Dothan a better place, changing attitudes of departments in the City of Dothan, and making citizen interaction with the City of Dothan better. 3. And the people of Dothan are proud of you.

MESSAGE NUMBER 2

When Mike Schmitz kicks someone's butt...he kicks their butt! WOW, 96% of the registered voters of the City of Dothan elected Mike Schmitz as Chairman of the Dothan City Schools Board of Education.

It is clear had Mike Schmitz decided to seek a third term as Mayor he would have gotten re-elected. Mayor Schmitz knew that Mark Saliba wanted to be Mayor and would do a good job. Mayor Schmitz has seen the need for stability in the Dothan City Schools. Mayor Schmitz has seen the need of preparation for what to do after school. And his love for people, for this city, has made him want to make a difference in the lives of the young people.

Mike Schmitz is a product of a 5th grade teacher taking time to work with him and teach him to read. Mike Schmitz is an example of what can be done when a "investment" in someone's life can do. And his passion, his desire, is to make the investment in making the children of the City of Dothan have a chance in life.

This man's heart is bigger than Dothan. His love for people, seeing them grow and prosper, is unreal.

And Mike Schmitz is ALMOST a self made man in success. I say ALMOST because he has a wife, Sandy and a son Michael, that has supported his missions in life and allowed him to be a success and help others. So with his determination and drive, with a wife and son who supported him, Mike wants to and has walked the walk to make life better for others.

Along with Mike a couple of new Dothan School Board Members. With the returning members and the new ones, the students - faculty - support staff will see a new beginning in the City of Dothan Schools.

The parents and extended families of students in the school system should be super excited.

BEGINNING OCTOBER 1 WHEN THE CHANGES TAKE PLACE

IT WILL BE TIME FOR THESE ELECTED TO...

GO! GO! GO!
