HOUSTON COUNTY:      Young People... watch what and how you say things on Social Media. What might sound OK when read by others is interpreted different.

Wicksburg High School, Houston County School Supt. David Sewell, Houston County Sheriff Deputies investigated an inappropriate social media post made by a Wicksburg student.

It is the policy of the Houston County School Board and that of Sheriff Donald Valenza and the Houston County Sheriff Department, no matter the hour when a inappropriate social media post is identified that could be deemed as a threat, the Houston County Sheriff Team hits the road right then.

After investigation the threat was not deemed as a danger to the students and/or faculty. The issue will be dealt with by the Houston County School Board.

As per policy of the Houston County School Board a telephone notification went out to the parents of the student. But the children of the school or faculty were not in danger.

Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza has been very clear, extremely clear, crystal clear of the following; (1) no matter the time the Houston County Sheriff is notified of a threat, the Houston County Sheriff Investigative Team hits the roads tracking that threat down, (2) the Houston County Sheriff Investigative Team WILL NOT STOP until the threat source has been identified and investigated. (3) At anytime that the Houston County Sheriff Department feels like a threat could be credible and the children and faculty would be in danger, Sheriff Donald Valenza himself will close the school. (4) If the threat is cleared but was substantial, Sheriff Valenza will assign additional deputies to the school. Without question or hesitation the safety of the students and faculty is first.

Now with that said Sheriff Valenza's stand mirrors that of Houston County School Superintendent David Sewell and members of the Houston County Board of Education. And while Sewell has the authority to close the school, if for one minute Sheriff Valenza felt there was a danger and the school did not, Sheriff Valenza will personally close the school.

However Houston County does not have that issue in egos or turf wars. Both the Sheriff Department, Supt. Sewell and the School Board along with Sheriff Valenza have a cooperative working relationship.
