A former Fort Walton Beach resident pled guilty to manslaughter this week in connection with her role in a 2015 fatal overdose of a Shalimar military veteran. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office had charged 25-year old Darian Caldwell with homicide resulting from distribution of a controlled substance. 36-year old Chad Beezley of Shalimar was found dead from a heroin overdose inside his residence on October 3rd 2015.
OCSO investigators determined that Caldwell had supplied the drugs that killed him. A homicide warrant was issued in December 2016, but Caldwell had left the area. She was ultimately located in Texas and transported back to Okaloosa County on April 18th of 2017. She was sentenced yesterday.
It is the first successful investigation in Okaloosa County where a defendant was charged, and convicted, for their role in the death of an individual from a heroin overdose. Assistant State Attorney Jack Schlechter was assigned the case.
