ENTERPRISE, June 25, 2018 — On July 5, 2018, from 8:00am until noon, Ed Sherling Ford in Enterprise will be the site of the first ever Alabama stop for the Purple Heart Legacy Truck run. The Purple Heart Run is the quintessential road trip whereby Purple Heart recipients themselves thank Americans across the country for their appreciation and support of our nation’s military and their families for the sacrifices made when America goes to war.

Driven by combat wounded/disabled veterans, the Purple Heart Truck will make its way from coastto-coast rallying communities to thank our military veterans and support this great mission. Sponsored jointly by Wounded Warriors Family Support (WWFS) and the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), the Purple Heart Run features a mobility-equipped 2018 Ford F-150 adapted to suit combat-wounded veterans who are paralyzed or have lost limbs.

Our belief is that, given the right vehicle for mobility, a combat-wounded veteran will have the freedom to live a productive and quality life with his or her family. The 2018 Run began mid-June in Mt. Vernon, Virginia, and will travel 8,000 miles over approximately 40 days. The final stop of this year’s Run will be in Spokane, Washington, at the site of the 2018 MOPH National Convention on July 20, 2018, where the keys to the truck will be presented to a disabled Purple Heart recipient that is selected from a nationwide search.

Along the way, the Purple Heart Truck will often be accompanied by a motorcycle escort which can be joined by local veteran motorcycle clubs. The team will stop to give publicity for local MOPH Chapters and Purple Heart entities who will host an appropriate welcoming ceremony. At each stop, Combat Wounded Parking Signs are provided free of charge by WWFS to any entity as a way of honoring and recognizing Purple Heart veterans. From coast to coast, the signs have been placed in parking lots of businesses, schools, churches, government building, medical facilities and sporting venues.

Wiregrass locals are encouraged to come to Ed Sherling Ford to show support for our military and sign the Purple Heart Truck with a message of support to our veterans and their families. In return, they will be asked for a donation to help offset the costs off the Run.
