DOTHAN: The Wiregrass Museum of Art (WMA) is pleased to announce that Yard Party for Art, its annual fundraiser for art education, will return to the museum's garden on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Billed as "the hottest party of the summer," the evening will include an energetic lineup of live, original music from regional musicians, interactive art installations, yard games, great drinks, local food trucks, and a chance to dance the night away at a one-night music festival to support and promote the arts in the community.

The 2017 event will feature performances by four bands from around the Southeast: Young Natives from Pensacola, Florida; Kick the Robot from Atlanta, Georgia; Kyshona Armstrong from Nashville, Tennessee; and The Old Paints from Birmingham, Alabama. David Gilligan from Wiregrass Radio will be the evening's emcee.

New to Yard Party for Art this Year will be art installations on the museum's grounds. Artist Butch Anthony's mobile drive-thru museum, housed in an Airstream trailer, will be on display in the parking lot as a public component of "Museum of Wonder," the artist's current WMA exhibition, on display now through September 30.

"Magnifying Moments," an installation created by Birmingham, Alabama-based artists Stacey Holloway and Jacob Phillips, will also be on display in WMA's garden. The piece combines video and shadow play projected onto a large screen, controlled by two participants on stationary penny-farthing bicycles. Yard Party attendees will be able to interact with the piece throughout the evening.

"Yard Party for Art is one of the museum's major fundraisers, and every ticket purchased supports our mission to inspire lifelong learning through visual art. The event is also a great platform for musical and visual artists from the region, and we're excited to offer so many diverse performances and art installations in one night," said Melissa Rea, WMA's development director.

Dothan's favorite food trucks and vendors, including Dothan Ice Cream, KJ's Shack, Lu's Lemonade, Marshall Dog, and Peckham's Food Truck, will be lined up to offer crowd-pleasing snacks and dinner all evening long. Local microbrewery, Folklore Brewing and Meadery, will offer a tasting of its craft beer brewed especially for Yard Party for Art. Cash bars featuring drinks from Adams Beverages will be located throughout the venue.

Harley's Landing, a pop-up restaurant, will prepare Yard Party for Art's annual Gold Plate dinner. This year's dinner, generously sponsored by JM Wood Auction Company, Inc., will be held adjacent to WMA's garden at The Depot Off Main. It will feature fresh Gulf snapper, new potatoes and a black bean and corn salad served with a honey vinaigrette dressing. An assortment of appetizers and a peach-blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream will round out the meal.

Gold Plate tickets are $75 each and include dinner and admission to the Yard Party concert. Seats are limited. Reservations for individual seats up to tables of eight can be made by calling the museum at 334-794-3871.

General admission tickets for Yard Party for Art are available online at WMA's websiteand at the museum's front desk for an advance price of $15. General admission tickets will be $20 at the gate on the evening of the event.
