Dothan, Al – State Auditor Jim Zeigler carries his plan to fund the state’s highways without a gas tax hike to Dothan Thursday. Zeigler presents his ‘Plan Z’ to the Republican Women of Houston County in a noon speech at the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center, 795 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, AL.
The state legislature convenes March 5 and is expected to consider a 12-cent a gallon increase in the gasoline tax. Zeigler says the increase is not needed. He says he has discovered $63.5 million a year being diverted from the highway fund to other things. He says a total of $300 million has been diverted from the highway fund.
